Questions
Before you buy
Can't see your question? We're happy to talk it through.
Book a free 15-minute call →Is this the same as the HMRC starter checklist?
No. HMRC's starter checklist is a tax form your new employee fills in if they don't have a P45. Our checklist is your onboarding record and it prompts you to collect their P45 or HMRC starter checklist along with everything else.
Does it cover online share code checks?
Yes. It explains when a manual document check is allowed and when your new starter must give you a share code from the Home Office online service. You can then record any follow-up date for time-limited permission.
Can I record who did the right-to-work check?
Yes. The official use only section records who checked the documents, when and whether a follow-up check is due. Type it into Word, sign with your online signature tool or print and complete it by hand.
How long should I keep right-to-work records?
Keep copies for the whole time the person works for you and for two years after they leave.
Does it work in Scotland and Northern Ireland?
Yes. Right-to-work rules are the same across the UK, so the checklist works for employers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Can I reuse it for every new starter?
With Word, yes. It becomes your reusable onboarding template for one legal entity. The PDF is generated for one named new starter.
What about sponsored visas or unusual cases?
The checklist standardises your onboarding, but sponsored visas and unusual right-to-work cases may need specialist immigration advice.
