Most UK SMEs end up in one of two places when they need ongoing HR support. The big-name retainers charge £200–£400 a month on 12-month, 36-month or even 5-year contracts, paid whether you call them or not. PAYG consultants charge £100–£150 an hour with no minimum but no pre-agreed price either, so the bill is whatever the brief turns into.

Why is HR Launch Box more expensive than a £15 template?
Because we're not selling a template. The Personalisation Studio generates a document around your specific business, role, hire type and jurisdiction — branching questions, adapting clauses and explaining each decision as you go. A £15 template is a Word file you fill in yourself, assuming you already know what to write. If you don't, the price difference is the cost of either learning UK employment law from scratch or risking a contract that's wrong.
Why is HR Launch Box cheaper than an employment lawyer?
Because we don't sell bespoke legal advice. We sell personalised standard documents at scale. A solicitor charging £400+ for an offer letter is appropriate when the role is unusual, contentious or requires advice specific to your circumstances. For most first hires, we use software to do the personalisation, which is what makes us affordable. If your situation genuinely needs a lawyer, we'll tell you that.
How is On Tap HR Support different from other UK HR retainers?
On Tap isn't a retainer, it's a pre-paid block of consultant time. There's no monthly fee, no contract, no notice period and no auto-renewal. You buy 5, 10 or 20 hours upfront at a known price and the hours stay valid for 12 months from purchase. When the block runs out, you decide whether to buy another. Most UK retainers lock you into 12 to 36 months at £200–£400 a month, paid whether or not you use the service that month.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Personalised digital documents are non-refundable once the Studio is completed and the document is generated. This is standard across personalised digital products. What if I'm not in the UK — can I still use HR Launch Box?
If you're hiring someone who will work in the UK (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland), yes. The Studio is built around UK employment law and the four UK jurisdictions. Where you personally are based doesn't matter — what matters is where your hire works. Founders setting up UK operations from abroad are one of our core audiences.
